The Bauplay Method

It is not magic. It is methodology.

Behind every Bauplay game there is a clear pedagogical approach: the Bauplay Method. Four pillars that transform the way we learn, create, and connect. Three moments that guide each session. And a single premise: less is more creativity.
We don't give templates. We give pieces. We don't correct. We ask. We don't infantilize. We respect.
Whether in a kindergarten classroom, a library, an event, a nursing home, a living room table, or a FabLab, the Bauplay Method works because it respects the creator.

The Manifesto

Bauplay's pedagogical principles

01

We don't infantilize.

Respect has no age. A piece of wood is worth the same in the hands of a 4-year-old child as in those of an 80-year-old adult.
02

There are no templates.

Only tools and decisions. We give pieces, not templates to copy.
03

Fewer pieces. More possibilities.

Delimitation is the engine. When you remove the superfluous, what remains is pure imagination.
04

Art is not decoration.

It is language, reference, and starting point. We connect with the Bauhaus, artists like Kandinsky, and with the invisible artists.
05

If you don't touch it, you don't learn it.

Tactile experimentation is irreplaceable. The hand thinks before the brain.

Pedagogical Foundations

The 4 Pillars

🖐️ Pillar 1: The Tangible Form

What you touch, what you understand.

You don't learn creativity from a video. The Bauplay Method is based on the direct manipulation of wooden pieces with real weight, texture, and temperature.

In Bautype: each piece is a part of a letter. You feel the arc, the straight line, the dot.
In Bauboard: organic shapes that stack, balance, and transform.
In Sensorial: the first encounter with the world through touch.

🎯 Pillar 2: Creative Delimitation

Less is more creativity.

We don't give a thousand pieces to choose from. We give the essential ones and ask them to invent. Delimitation is not a barrier: it is the space where imagination is forced to work.

Just enough pieces. 4 colors. 0 rules. How do you make an 'S' if you don't have smooth curves? You decide. You create.

🛠️ Pillar 3: Construction Without Templates

There are no mistakes. There are decisions.

In the Bauplay Method, we don't correct. We ask. We don't compare with a model. We value the process. Every composition is valid because it is the result of a series of choices.

"Why did you put that piece there?"
"What does this shape remind you of?"
"How does your letter feel?"

🎨 Pillar 4: Art as a Reference

We don't create in a vacuum. We create from history.

Each game draws from specific artistic movements: Bauhaus, Kandinsky, Miró, constructivism, and invisible women artists. We don't imitate. We use art as a starting point for everyone to find their own voice.

Ars feminae reclaims Hilma af Klint, Anni Albers, Louise Bourgeois. Bautype is born from Eva's typography inspired by the Bauhaus.

The Rhythm of Learning

A method you can feel

Explore

Touch, mess up, get to know the pieces without a goal.

"What do you feel when you hold it?"

Compose

Make decisions: color, shape, balance, intention.

"Why do you put it there?"

Narrate

Name what has been created. Tell the story of the composition.

"What have you built? What does it remind you of?"

Real example with Bautype:

A 6-year-old child pours out the pieces. He classifies them by color (Explore). He decides to build the letter 'M' of his name, but uses two inverted arcs instead of straight lines (Compose). When he finishes, he explains: "It's an M for mountain. Because my name starts like a climb" (Narrate).

In those three movements, they have practiced fine motor skills and concentration, made aesthetic decisions, developed symbolic thinking, and expressed a personal narrative. Without textbooks. Without templates.

The method in practice
